Uroboros (also Oroboros)
The Uroboros is a classical image of a serpent devouring its own tail and
is first recorded in Egypt circa 1600 BC. Similar images appear in many mythologies
from Europe and Asia. Patrick Hughes has long been fascinated by these images
and has recently remade constructions on this theme, which he first made in
1969.The image below shows some examples of these pieces. Sizes are around
20-30cm. Some selected links with historical information and images of uroboros
can be found at the bottom of the page. If you would like more information
about these sculptures please contact the studio.
