How not to light a Hughes  
  If lit by a spot on or near the ceiling, the spot should be a good distance away from the picture to avoid creating shadows under or on the picture. (as in the first image below). Ideally pieces should be hung at eye level.  
   
  All Hughes reverspectives EXCEPT DOORS, have light and dark planes. The light planes should be lit and the dark planes unlit. DOORS can be lit generally.  
   
  In the first photo we can see how a bright spot close to the left side of the picture creates shadows onto the lighter planes that contradicts the painted shadows. In the second image we can see how placing the major light source on the right reinforces the painted shadows and helps the optical effect of a reverspective.
